From St. Tammany Fire District #1:
This morning at approximately 9:13 am, we responded to the report of a structure fire on Eastridge Dr. in Slidell. The first units arrived on the scene in less than 4 minutes to find light smoke showing. Police Officers with the Slidell Police Department were already on the scene and extinguished a small fire in the kitchen with a portable fire extinguisher. There was only minor fire damage in the kitchen and smoke damage throughout the house.
The owner of the residence alerted firefighters that her pets were still inside the home. Firefighters quickly located the dog and cat and began to resuscitate them with the use of new pet masks that were donated to department by Unforgettable Pets LLC last month. Unfortunately, the dog perished but the cat survived and is doing fine. Firefighters on the scene said "without the new pet masks the cat would not have survived".
